Anyone know the difference between an sti oil pump and a wrx one? they look the same but have different part numbers. Once i split the block ill see what kind of condition the crank is in, and probably have to order another one.
Manly pistons, are they MANLY?... I wanna say 15010AA360 is the part number for your car on the oil pump. It should be the same for the WRX and STi unless they bumped the pressure in the STi with duel AVCS..Are you going to reuse that crank as well?

Ive got another wrx crank and block sitting in the shop also has a spun bearing. ill take em both out and look to see if there is any damage, and if there is i will be getting a new one. my budget is about 2500.00 and im up too about 1250.oo so far. My pistons are going to be so manly it hurts! 8)! the STi pump is a different part number i think. Im going to call tech-line at some point and see what the difference is. I'v seen some kits suggesting the sti pump, so i want to find out why!

Screw it, don't risk putting a used crank in just grab up a new one.
OEM around $300

^^^This.
Appearance isn't a good way to judge if a part is good or not. When in doubt take it to a machine shop and have them check it. Would you really wanna gamble another motor on it?

ESP. When the crank is the heart of the motor pretty much.
Once again if a motor has a spun bearing anything that comes into contact with oil is pretty much useless or will require more time and money to fix.

Your doing good on your budget, don't take any shortcuts and you'll be fine.

going to order the crankshaft tomorrow. Both of the ones i have are no good. Also going to order the STI oil pump, although i havent found a legit reason why. Im assuming it pumps more volume of oil but i dont know for sure. Anyone have any insight?

Not sure about the STi oil pump, but I did the same thing. The "bigger is always better" idea convinced me I guess.

The newer STi pump is a 11mm rather than the crappy 10mm they use to come with. It is also designed to flow more oil due to the dual AVCS in the newer cars as well. You'll be fine using it...Trust me...:P

I run one that is shimmed and honestly I could have gotten away with running no shims. Just make sure you keep your oil topped off, that thing sucks harder than a ex porn star.

Ahem. An OEM crank cost me 550 $CAD, so they are not cheap. This is the faster option over checking and repairing a spun bearing crank though.

Love the sight of these $exy items!

What exact pistons have you purchased - what alloy - and are you bore-matching the cylinders for them?
