Hybrid Rebuild Advice Please

I have my block apart, down to the point where I have the pistons out. I cracked the #4 ring land. No scarring on the walls(Lucky!). SO... I'm doing the rebuild with a Lexus mechanic who is a friend, he tells me that since I'm not taking it above and beyond the expected demand of the STI Block, we don't need to do bearings. EJ25 has 20 - 25k on it. MY mods -EJ25 on WRX heads, STI IC, STI pinks, VF39, Walbro pump, Perrin hoses and rails.

I'm going to get a mild tune on it, and I'm only looking for numbers from high 200's to low 300's. I'm going to run forged pistons. Eventually I'd like to go with a 16g turbo, but I like sleeping in the same bed as my wife, so it's not happening on this build. My question is should I throw in the pistons and call it good or would it be stupid of me not to change the bearings and check or turn the crank while I'm here? Thanks

IMO it would be stupid to not replace at least the rod bearings and check the crank. you have the damn thing apart, why not?
Splitting the block is kinda of tricky if you never did it before. you have to seperate the pistons fron the rods to get the block apart.

seperate the pistons from the rods? what do you mean? I pulled the wrist pins and popped out the pistons already. and that is why my buddy doesn't think it's worth it, he says splitting this block is a pain. I was thinking about going it alone. How long for one guy who's never done it before do you think?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

IMO

You should do the bearings, pistons and some head work wouldn't hurt... this would really help your build last a lot longer and withstand some punishment.

I agree with as well, your this far why not put new bearings in it, mine as well take it all the way apart have it cleaned and put new bearings in it with the new pistons that you want, then you wont have to worry about coming back and taking the engine apart later in life to do it again, how do you think you broke your number 4 piston????

The engine was never properly tuned for the setup being run. The car worked it's way through a couple owners that didn't drive like they should've. It was running lean, and the ring land cracked.
