EJ22T -Closed Deck- WORTH $$$???

I'm a newb to the Sub thing but know that this motor is an excellent choice if you wanna build a rally-tastic Subie! I have access to this motor well the whole car for that matter... Its a 94 Turbo, I'm wondering if these are worth much $$$. It has around 140k and runs excellent. How desirable are these?? Are people building them like they should be?? If I had more money I'd LOVE to build it...

One word answer to this is YES!!! Buy it, build it, run it and enjoy it, one of the best motors Subaru ever build.

Please put a intercooler on it if you do!!! Or the motor wil go poof!! These did not come intercooled and that led to there failure. Plus the turbos seemed to fail more then you would like to see. But they are great cars and are a excellent platform. But like any other platform there is room for improvement.

Oh and that is a top notch motor , That is the block I have in my 02 wrx and I have it stroked to 2.34 l and It has great mid range torque. I have a Garrett Gt 30 rotated but I think It would be a great motor for a twinscroll turbo setup, I want to try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you
Good Luck

That is a very good block...just make sure you rebuild it and put an intercooler on it !Thumbs Up

I would say you should be able to get that short block for around $200-$400

king723 12-19-2007 10:10 PM

yes definatly go for it..im building this block to with a stroke at 2.3 all you will need is a 2.5 phase 1 crank and rods.. there are many many high hp builds on this block over at nasioc.

psinuse 12-20-2007 04:12 PM

Kind of off topic here, but what years were the phase 1 cranks? Also how hard would it be to bolt on wrx heads to this block?

king723 12-20-2007 05:24 PM

I phase 1 parts are off of 1995-1999 2.5 n/a's i believe.. the wrx heads fit right up with no mods needed.

Stroke 79mm (phase 1 crank pre 1999)
Piston bore 97.5mm (Wiseco K602M975)
Rods 5.137" 130.48mm (Eagle CRS5137S3D)
WRX heads 49cc (link)
Headgasket 0.051" 1.295mm (Cometic C4263-051)

Thanks you sir. Those will come in handy.

What about timing belt issues, say if your going from a SOHC to a DOHC, will everything still bolt up?

king723 12-24-2007 03:58 PM

i dont quit understand your question but sohc heads or dohc heads will both fit on the block with no mods needed.

psinuse 12-27-2007 03:36 PM

Never mind I found the answer I was looking for thanks though. !Thumbs Up
