Hey all,
I just wanted some advice tips and input from people who have built their engine themselves. Some friends and I will be working on mine once I get the money situation figured out.

Make sure you have all the right tools to build a motor first, i.e. Dial bore gauges, micrometers, correct sockets, etc.
DO NOT USE PLASTI-GAUGE FOR MEASURING!!!!
Get a Subaru service manual for your year motor.
Clean clean clean clean<----do this with every part going into the motor.
I suggest laying out all the parts and tools you will need prior to assembly.
Clean work area
Clean work area
Clean the block, crank, rods, pistons and bearings before using them.
Use correct torque sequence on block assembly, very important.
I will add more when I get home from work later.

Sorry for the delay work is stupid.
Measure everything at least 3 times before you even think about assembling the motor, i.e. crank journals, rods journals, rod size, pistons, etc.
Once you have things measured, you can start assembly.
Measure everything 3 times as you are putting things together.
Clean everything.
Use a good assembly lube
I know I say clean everything a lot, but I can't stress it enough.
