Cam gear need a puller?

Hey do i need a puller for either of the driver side cam gears or will they come off after i unbolt them?

mine I just had to loosen the bolt holding it on. That was a pain in the ass but that is what an impact is for...

what kind of cams did you put in your 06? i have been thinking about them but to me thats a pretty seriouse mod so it need thinking time

you dont need a puller. it is one bolt on the end of the cam that hold the gear in place. once removed the gear slips right off. The only down side is that the factory torque spec is around 85Ft-lbs and most of the time they are tightened to over 125+ ft-lbs. took a 3/4 impact to break mine loose. After that it is easy as pie.

Oh man your not kidding.... i swear i'm gonna brake something. I still haven't got it off. i talked to subaru earlier to make sure it wasn't reverse thread and for advice, they said not to use an impact on it. I'll get it tomorrow

lol, I talked to the tech at the dealership near me and they said use an impact or heat the bolt up and hope you dont gwarp the gear. They are also the ones that informed me that they are to tight from the factory. Good luck getting it loose.

Get yourself a long piece of pipe big enough to go over the end of the wrench or whatever you are loosening the bolt with. Leverage is your friend.

the Cam is hexed for a 21mm or 22mm wrench to keep it from spinning and with the used of an allen wrench in the cam bolt and a lot of force they come right off..

tried that first with mine. No dice, they were extremely tight.

Yes they are, but with the right muscle you can break it.. I actually snapped off (2) of bolts trying to get them lose.. Once they break however you can unthread the remaining section by hand, it's all in the "Stretch" of the bolt.. They are TQed with a lot of stretch which is eliminated with out the thickness of the cam gear..
