cam gear alignment marks!

how close do theese marks need to be ? mine look a tooth off! can i use an impact to take the bolts off of the gear to replace them, and re-align the belt?

Ah yeah, they need to be right on.
why would you need to replace the cam gears? Those bolts can really be a pain to get out, I have had ones that my bad boy 1/2 IR impact wouldn't even budge.

the gear replacement

the motor is a jdm core, and the left exhaust gear is chipped. so ive got a new stock gear to replace it with.

nagy's right, they need to be dead on. There can't be any room for error.

Be careful when you loosen the bolt. Try not to let the gear spin; the valves may hit the piston. It may also be extremely difficult to remove, so be prepared for that. Make sure your tools are up to par, and whatever you do, don't let the hex key slip. My friend has rounded two of these bolts and now he can't get them out.

im pretty close!

i replaced the gear and got the belt and gears as close to the marks as possible, (closer than it was upon first inspection)

After you get the belt on turn the crank around a few times and see if they still line up.
