If you have <$20k to spend on this, you should limit yourself to about 350whp and go with like a GT30R running 20PSI or so with the supporting internal engine/tranny mods. If you have more than that to spend on this, you should call up crawford and beg them to build you a motor.

im no a budget of about 5,000 so crawford is way out of the picture and if i had 20,000 id buy a cosworth long block.

having a bullet proof suspension components and a good driver is *much* more important in rally than lots of power.

yeah i got thinking about it and just to rebuild my motor with minor mods would be about $4,000 so now ive really got to save and i dont want to do the 2.5 cause
it pretty damn expensive and i seems like id need to upgrade the engine harness and all that crap

You could always go with a hybrid 2.5 shortblock and 2.0 heads.

hybrid shortblock + rotated GT30R will get you ~400whp maybe 450 but your tranny is not gunna take it anyway so you're over your budget as soon as it snaps.

I wasn't saying you are a bad driver. What I was saying is a good driver with a good suspension and light power will blow away a shitty driver and lots of power.

If you are as good as you say, then I'd go for suspension, it really will make a big difference compared to power.

With a proper clutch and all what can it hold?
How much can the 5speed WRX tranny hold?
How much can the 6speed STI tranny hold?

If you have an STI then you should be fine, they are much stronger than the WRX gears. The WRX gears can hold a good amount if you respect them, but if you drive and shift hard, they arent going to hold much over stock.

if you have an STi all you need for 400whp is:

GT30R
Rotated mount kit (up+down+ewg in better configuration)
FMIC
Bigger injectors (like 800cc)
fuel pump
Re-tune
and prob a cat-back and a short ram intake to round her our
