Anyone w/ mods have warranty service done at Steve Moyer or Becker Subaru?
I live outside Reading, PA and would like to use one of those 2 dealers to service my BRZ. I'd like to install some bolt ons (header, intake, catback) but I'm worried the dealer will give me issues if I need warranty work done. I understand dealers vary in how lenient they are regarding mods and just was wondering if anyone who has preformed light mods has any experience with how cooperative either Steve Moyer or Becker Subaru service centers have been. Appreciate any input! Thanks.
Yes, that would be the simple solution. My question was very simple as well. I would like to do some light mods on my car which should have no bearing on the longevity of the stock components and do not want to be taken advantage of by a dealer who has a reputation for being uncooperative with customers or looking for any opportunity to turn down warranty claims. I'm not planning to add a turbo, flash the ecu, etc. and all I asked was for suggestions of mod friendly dealers. Seeing as this or any other WRX forum for that matter is full of people who want to mod their cars but also expect to be treated fairly by the company they just patronized, I don't think my request for this information is unreasonable. If you want to keep your car stock because you don't want to take the time to do a little legwork and find out where to take your vehicle for fair treatment or you want to mod it and just assume your warranty is void, that's your call. Either way though, you have no information which would be helpful in answering my question so I'm not sure why you even felt the need to reply.
I agree with that as well. I'm only interested in going to the dealer for warranty related issues. I already have an independent mechanic that I used for all the work on my old Subaru that was out of warranty, or I do it myself.
Of course it's not simple. You bought a sports car. If you break the transmission or the engine, the dealer is likely going to claim you abused the car. Warranties are specifically worded to protect the manufacturer as much as legally possible. You can mod and get your car covered, you can not mod and get the work refused. If you bought a sports car because of the warranty, you're naive.
